'Life on the Edge 7' - Vehicle recovery on smart motorways

Following the collaboration between Highways England (HE) and the Institute of Vehicle Recovery (IVR) on the production of the film, www.youtube.com/watch?v=uN71s4JoN2Y both parties have agreed that it will become Life on the Edge 7.

It will also be incorporated into VR 3, Roadside Assessment, which deals with safety at the roadside, the correct procedures to approach the scene and carrying out a risk assessment prior to recovering or repairing a vehicle. The film, which is available to all at no charge via the link, is approximately 16 minutes in length.

A great deal on man hours were spent on this project, led by former IVR vice president Mac Hobbs FIVR (see image), as well as a financial commitment from the Institute but it's believed this IVR driven initiative shows liaising with external organisations and stakeholders can make a difference, get results and improve safety for all. All the recovery scenarios carried out at the Fire Service College, in Moreton-in-Marsh, were meticulously planned and directed by IVR president and CAT 4 tutor Nick Ovenden FIVR, with the support of numerous representatives of the IVR.
